Kaup: Two-wheeler rider dies because of road hump

Daijiworld Media Network - Kaup (SP)

Kaup, Dec 12: A person driving his scooter lost his balance, as a result of which his vehicle fell to the road. The rider's head bumped against the road divider and he breathed his last. This tragic incident happened at Katpadi near here on the night of Monday, December 10.

The victim of this accident was Ganesh Shetty (39), son of the late Muddu Shetty and Jalaja Shetty from Manipur near Katpadi. Locals have blamed unscientific road hump for this accident.

Ganesh was an electrician by profession. He had visited Koteshwar near Kundapur on some work on Monday. He was returning home in his scooter via Udupi and Katpadi when the accident happened at 11 pm. Road hump has been newly erected at the spot where vehicles enter service road at Katpadi from highway. When negotiating the hump, the scooter went off balance and Shetty slipped and fell on the divider, reports said. He suffered serious injuries to his head, face, and chest.

Although arrangements were made to take him to the hospital, he breathed his last on the way. He was the only earning member of his family and was supporting widowed mother, unmarried sister, wife and two small children. His death has cast a pall of gloom on the family members.

My Condolences to his family, It is very tragic, I know that exit, its is scary for the 2 wheelers, They should properly Install the sign boards for the newly installed hump, In India we fail in Traffic signs, even in some severe turns they had installed some glass when I was Small, Still its there but only the pole. no glass... once installed, never repaired or replaced. Now who will take responsibility of that poor family? Administration should be blamed for this.

It is sad that one more precious life is lost. It is expedient that road humps are properly marked with florescent signs. Hope the municipality take immediate action in the matter.

Give a break for helmet ,agree its his fault if he dint wear a helmet. But our systems sucks so badly ,they place humps at they like,a lot of roads have pot holes etc..
In name of religion card these politicians are playing with our lives.
My heart goes to the family of ganesh, who were depended on him..

Simply because of this ridiculousness of our infrastructure, they have to suffer.

    Brother ALI.
We keep blaming everyone except ourselves. Don't we all know and can't we expect our authorities to be bad. Then why don't we protect ourselves with basic safety gear. Wear a HELMET. It protects you and safeguards your family. Death is due to head injury. Hump may be cause, but even a stray dog can be a cause. Injury was caused due to lack of HELMET. If helmet was work he would have been alive today.
    May his soul RIP

    Brother Thomas.

I agree not wearing helmet is an issue. If you are from mangalore city ,you would realize the plight of our system, which is reflected in the way vehicles are plying.
Recently in the statebank, nellikai road, the authorities undertook a drainage overhaul. They are done with the drainage fixation ,however the road is left in pathetic condition, atleast the road earlier was far better than it is now..

Further ,a good system brings down the risk rate of accidents.Helmet should be issue of safety for unforseen circumstance or reckless driving.
In this case the original cause of accident is hump and then helmet.
