Mangaluru, Dec 2: Police should trace the source of drugs to curb down the selling and consumption of drugs in the coastal belt, urged MP Shobha Karandlaje.
Addressing media here on Sunday, December 2, Shobha Karandlaje said, “The sale and consumption of drugs is very high in twin districts, but police will detain the ones who consume drugs and release them immediately. Police need to trace the source of drugs to curb the sale and consumption of drugs in the coastal belt.”
She also said, “I have met the victim of Thota Bengre gang rape and the accused who attacked her male friend and gang raped her. After the Nirbhaya rape, two times amendment was done for criminal law. Our demand is to make this law strong in the state. The juvenile who commit rape, should be punished under criminal law as similar to the punishment to the other accused. The accused commit crimes as they don’t have the fear of law and punishment.”
“Police are not doing proper patrolling in sensitive places, educational institutions, as police lack will power. Police outpost is a must in this region. MLA Vedavyas Kamath discussed with Police commissioner with regard to setting up Police station at Bengre,” said Karandlaje.
When asked about cancellation of Hampi Utsav due to drought conditions, Karandlaje took a dig at the coalition government saying, “The government has money to spend for Tipu Jayanthi but they don’t have money to conduct Hampi Utsav. Government is showing bias in celebration and playing cheap politics.”
When asked about Janardhan Poojary’s statement on Rama Mandir, Shobha Karandlaje said, “If Janardhan Poojary says that Ram Mandir will be built then it will surely be built at Ayodhya. I welcome his statement. Congress has intervened in the court four times through Kapil Sibal in the matter of Ram Mandir. Congress has prominent role in delay of the decision. Central government should bring an ordinance to bring an end to this Ayodhya issue.”
When asked about Siddaramaiah’s statement of Yeddyurappa becoming CM will only remain a dream, Shobha Karandhlaje answered, “People want Yeddyurappa to be Chief Minister. Let coalition run their government, they are concentrating more on the tussle between the leaders instead of the development of the state. Kumaraswamy is following Siddaramaiah’s steps.”
Mangaluru north MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyas Kamath, BJP district general secretary Brijesh Chowta and others were present.
