Mangalore, Dec 1: A merchant ship from Mumbai ‘Gurukripa’, got stuck in the silt near Bunder harbour on Saturday November 29.
The ship, which was carrying sand port from the old port to Kochi, got trapped in the soft soil at around noon, said Captain Nitin Rathod, port officer. The water-level was unusually low when the ship reached the port. Capt Rathod said that water-level would increase at night, which would then automatically set the ship afloat.
The silt existing from the Netravati railway bridge to Sultan Battery must be removed. The authorities have been requesting fishermen to do this from the past 15 years, he added.
