Mangaluru, Dec 1: "District administration has completely failed in providing security for the tourists,” alleged MLC Bojegowda in the backdrop of Thota Bengre gang rape case.
Addressing media here on Friday, December 1, Bojegowda said, “The gang rape incident which happened at Thota Bengre on November 18 was reported to the police very late but in short time the cops were able to trace 7 culprits and this indicates no one had intervened in this case. Coastal region is famed to be a tourist destination. But this incident had bought fear among tourists and people.”
"I visited the spot and as per the localities, several incidents occur in that area but do not come to light. We have not forgotten the incident that happened years back when Deputy Commissioner was attacked at Thota Bengre. When I visited the place, I noticed that there is no street light and no protection for the tourists. The place is such that even in the noon, it has a fearful atmosphere. Even I feel police outpost in that region is must and let police take decision on it,” he said.

“District administration has given the compensation of Rs 4 lac and Rs 2 lac will be given from Social Welfare Department to the victim,” he added.
Regarding to the suspension of the cop for refusing to file complaint, Bojegowda said, "The cop of Bantwal Police station who refused to take the complaint of the victim has been suspended. But that action is not enough as enquiry should be done and he should be permanently dismissed as he is not fit to be in the police service.”
