Udupi, Nov 25: The ‘Kambala Kala’ awards were conferred on teacher Sharavati Raviraj and Krishnaprasad Uppinakote, script writer of Tulu movie ‘Kadalamage’, on Sunday November 23. The event was jointly organized by district Kambala Kala and Sahitya Vedike, and Disha Communications, Katpady.
K P Acharya, correspondent, Kaup Sri Vidhyaniketan group of education institutions, presided over the programme and presented the awards. Speaking on the occasion, Acharya said that social welfare and voluntary organizations play a key role in bringing the youth into the mainstream of society. The youth should become role models through programmes that sustain the culture and traditions of our land, he added.
Dr Ravindranath, governor, Lions Club, said that the youth should lead a life of discipline, patience, and introspection, to scale greater heights in their life. K Satyendra Pai, president, Katpady Rotary Club, distributed the prizes to winners of various competitions.
Harischandra Amin, former zonal president, Indian Jaycees, zone 15, Arun Kunder, editor, ‘Kadalapempu’ monthly bulletin, and Rama, head master, Ambady P V N High School, were the chief guests of the occasion.
Dr U K Shetty, honorary president Kambala Kala and Sahitya Vedike, welcomed the gathering. President Prakash Suvarna delivered the introductory speech. ‘Natya Vaibhav’, a dance extravaganza, was staged by local students and members of self-help-groups after the stage programme. The Yakshagana play ‘Bhasmasura Mohini’, was staged by the Yakshagana troupe of Ambalapady.
