Puttur, Nov 24: State energy minister K S Eshwarappa inaugurated seven sub-stations across the taluk on Sunday November 23.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the state is facing an energy shortage of 1,700 mega watts. As a temporary measure, this shortage will be restored from Varahi, Raichur, Bellary, and Udupi terminal points, for which Rs 400 crore has already been released.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway with state and National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPCL) to set up a power plant of 4,000 mega watts at Bijapur. Moreover, electricity theft cases will be dealt at the IGP level to curb the rise in such cases throughout the state, he added.
Earlier, minister Eshwarappa also inaugurated a sub-station at Nellyady. District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, MP D V Sadanand Gowda, Coastal Development Authority chairman Nagaraj Shetty, and MLA Mallika Prasad, were amongst those present.
