Puttur, Oct 31: The tug-of-war between the Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad and Uppinangady gram panchayat (GP) run by the Congress on the issue of building a commercial complex at Uppinangady bus stand witnessed another twist on Thursday October 30. Puttur taluk panchayat stepped in to instruct the gram panchayat to suspend works relating to the said complex.
The taluk panchayat said that the action plan for the commercial complex works being built by the GP did not have the mandatory approval and transparency rules were not followed in executing the works. Hence, the gram panchayat was asked to close the pits dug for the foundation of the proposed complex and maintain status quo on the issue.
The taluk panchayat executive officer also instructed the gram panchayat to convene a special gram sabha on the issue and discuss the matter threadbare at the meeting before moving further on the issue. If the GP fails to take these steps, it will face action, he has warned.
A furious Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress president Bondala Jagannath retorted to this action of the TP, by accusing the Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad of transgressing her limits and utilizing the services of corrupt officials to politically annihilate GPs that are controlled by the Congress. He warned of retaliatory action if she does not stop such tactics.
He accused the MLA of creating hurdles for the Uppinangady commercial complex for the sole reason that the business of a BJP activist is likely to be affected if the complex comes up. Accusing the Puttur TP executive officer of acting like a puppet in the hands of the BJP, he said that a complaint against him would be made to the state chief secretary.
