Mangaluru: Agriculturists of DK tense due to overcast conditions, no rain

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 24: In the coastal region of Karnataka the intensity of heat was more in the daytime on Sunday, September 23. However, the weather turned cloudy in the evening.

For the past few weeks the coastal region is experiencing high temperature which reminds of the summer months of April and May. The expectation of rain due to the storm also did not materialize. For the paddy crop, rains are very much necessary. Because of the continuous heat, the saplings have dried. The paddy fields have started cracking up because of the incessant sunshine and high temperature.

On the other hand, areca nut farmers, who generally start watering the plants in the month of November, are in a situation wherein they have to start watering the areca nut plants now itself because of the extreme heat. The agriculturists are tensed as there is sunshine during the Hubba and Makha star seasons during which there should have been good rain. If the same climate continues paddy growers will be facing difficult times.
