Mangalore, Oct 29: It is reliably learnt, that Vinay L Shetty from Mangalore will take over as the state convener of the Bajrang Dal shortly. He will replace Mahendra Kumar, who has resigned from the post.
Through a statement, the then state convener of Bajrang Dal Mahendra Kumar, had said that the Bajrang Dal had supported the attacks on churches and prayer centres in Mangalore and elsewhere in the state. This had irked both the Sangh Parivar and the state government alike. The state government had to face some awkward moments, as its honesty in nabbing the perpetrators of this crime was questioned through various forums.
After these developments acquired political hue, Mahendra Kumar was arrested. Kumar had later resigned from the post, presumably at the behest of the Sangh Parivar and state BJP leaders, from the Mangalore sub-jail. The move was seen as a damage control measure by the state government.
Senior Sangh Parivar leaders have reportedly zeroed in on Vinay L Shetty for this powerful post. Sources said, that official communique in this connection is expected soon.
