Moodbidri, Oct 28: Entrepreneur Sripati Bhat inaugurated the ‘Goodudeepa’ competitions, organized by the local Sapaligara yane Ganigara Sangh and Sapaligara Yuva Vedike, on Sunday October 26 by lighting a Goodudeepa.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhat said that it is not advisable to shelve age old traditions under the guise of modernity. Time-tested tradition has a distinct message to convey, as Deepavali is a festival of light that shuns darkness, he said.
Local Sapaliga yane Ganigara Sangh president Sadashiv Bangera presided over the programme.
Dakshina Kannada Sapaligara yane Ganigara Sangh president Krishnappa Mendon, Sangh Mangalore taluk president Kannur Narayan Sapaliga, Gurkar Sundar Putran, honorary president Damodar C Sapaliga, Yuva Vedike president Rajesh Betkary, and honorary president Suraj Bannadka, were present on the dais.
Journalists Dhananjaya Moodbidri and Mohan K Sriyan, as well as Babu K Maroor of the Sangh were the judges of the competitions. Sundar M Poojary, Praveen Laadi, and Somant Koppala, bagged first, second, and third, prizes respectively, in the general category while Ashok Laadi and Prakash Achar Moodkonaje bagged the consolation prizes.
Rajesh Betkary, Sujaya Bangera, Sarika Rajesh, Naveen Betkari and Babita Betkary bagged the first, second, third, and fourth, prizes respectively, under the community section.
