Udupi: Construction worker falls to his doom

Udupi, Sep 4: In an incident which happened in the premises of Sri Durga English Medium School at Kokkarne near Brahmavar on Monday September 3 morning, a construction worker slipped, fell to the ground, and lost his life.

The deceased has been identified as Chandra Naik (45) from Cheralagudde in Shirur village. He along with some other workers, was engaged in the construction of the new school building. When he was doing masonry work by standing on the slab of the toilet, he slipped down and suffered grave injuries. He was taken to the government hospital at Brahmavar but he died on the way, it is learnt.

Chandrashekhar Shetty, vice president of the school development and monitoring committee, has been blamed for the incident in a complaint filed in Brahmavar police station. He has been charged with the failure to take any precautionary steps to ensure safety of workers.

A case relating to this complaint was registered in Brahmavar police station.
