Today majority of operations and coordinations are carried out manually in hospitals. Nurses are at high risk of work related musculoskeletal injuries by
performing lifting, bending and twisting. This project aims at developing patient lift and shift system for efficient and automated operations. The device can be used to lift patients while changing their bedspread and to transfer patients from trolleys to the bed and vice versa. These solutions are aimed at reducing manual operations and stress on nurses/ward boys. The side effects of manual lifting namely musculoskeletal injuries are reduced. Stress and pain experienced by the patient is also reduced.
This project was funded under the NU-NET collaborative research project of Nitte University.
