Mangaluru, Aug 19: 'Madi', a short movie was released at Big Cinemas here on August 11. The film is directed by Sudheer Attavar who is an acclaimed lyricist in Kannada and Tulu, also recipient of Karnataka Kannada Sahitya Academy Award for his work 'Gul Eh Bakavali'.
The film revolves around the life of people belonging to “Nalike Community”, an indigenous tribe of Dakshina Kannada. They perform the traditional 'Aati Kalanja'. Sadly, this community has not come out of the shackles of untouchability even today.
Nokku (MD Pallavi), Thaniya (Ramdas Devadiga) and the small boy (Master Santhosh) are the prominent artists among others. Small boy questions the temple priest about discrimination, mother consoles her son. Nokku slips into the temple pond, no one reaches out to her but their concern seems to be purification of the pond rather than rescuing the lower caste woman.
The show was followed by a panel discussion on the various issues relating to the film.
Dr Jayaprakash Mavinakuli eminent writer and scholar, Nityananda Pai, producer of ‘Paddayi’, Ganesh Rao, Karavali group of edcational institutions, artist M D Pallavi, Tanveer, CEO, ASAP Wealth Consultancy FZE, Dubai and Albert Jossy Rego were present.
The guests, artists, journalists and invitees shared their views on the relevant issue. It is a joint presentation of Albert Jossy Rego, Success Films Mumbai and Suraj Visuals, Mangaluru. Suraj Charles Nunes and Vidyadhar Shetty are the producers of the movie.
