Ranchi, Apr 16: In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme, Union Minister of Labour and Employment Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate a state-of-the-art 220-bedded Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Namkum, Ranchi, on Thursday.

The newly developed hospital, built at a cost of Rs 99.06 cr, is spread over 7.9 acres (17,559 sq. metres) and marks a significant milestone in Jharkhand’s public healthcare delivery system.

According to the Labour Ministry, the hospital complex comprises a basement, ground floor, and four upper floors, and features modern medical infrastructure designed to cater to the needs of over five lakh insured persons (IPs) and their dependents.

“The four-storey facility houses three modern operation theatres with provisions for an additional OT, 34 wards, six isolation wards, and 40 OPD rooms. It also provides ample space for doctors, administrative staff, and other personnel,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Equipped with critical departments like general medicine, surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and dental, the hospital will offer both outpatient and inpatient services. With the latest upgrade, it will now provide speciality and super-speciality treatments, thereby significantly enhancing access to advanced healthcare for beneficiaries in Ranchi and surrounding districts.

Originally established in 1987, the ESIC Hospital at Namkum has served as a key medical facility for industrial workers and their families. Over the decades, it has played a vital role in ensuring affordable healthcare to the ESI-covered population in the region.

In a further push to bolster medical education in the state, the ESIC has also approved the establishment of a medical college with 50 MBBS seats, slated to begin operations in October 2024.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expanding quality and affordable medical services under the ESI scheme and called the inauguration a testament to the government’s efforts to uplift healthcare standards for workers across India.
