Mangaluru: St Aloysius College to host week long feast of patron saint from Aug 19

Mangaluru, Aug 18: St Aloysius Gonzaga after who the college is named and being the patron of St Aloysius College, the 450th year of Aloysius Gonzaga will be observed this academic year.

A week long series of activities titled 'Seva Sapthah' from August 19 to August 25 will be held.

Aloysius Gonzaga, an Italian prince in the 16th century sacrificed his worldly life for the sake of those suffering in society. He died at a young age of 24 on June 21, 1591 while serving the plague victims in Italy who were abandoned for fear of contagion. His life is taken as a model of compassion and service for our young students of the college.

The objective is to reinforce the value of service in students and general public through a variety of programmes.

An Aloysian prayer service will be conducted on Sunday August 19 at 5 pm with eucharistic celebration at the St Aloysius chapel. This will be followed by a get-together at St Aloysius High School hall.

Archbishop of Bengaluru, Dr Peter Machado, Bishop Designate of Mangaluru, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha and DK zilla panchayat, Dr M R Ravi, CEO will be the special guests. 

Benefactors, alumni, staff representatives, students and invited dignitaries will participate in the programme.
