Udupi, Aug 17: A 30-year-old woman from Kundapur, was operated upon for a huge fibroid (tumour of the uterus), weighing 2.5 kg by a team of KMC, Manipal doctors led by Prof and Head department of OBG, Dr Muralidhar V Pai at the Kasturba Hospital here recently.
The patient was referred to the department of OBG on August 6, 2018 with a huge tumour of the uterus. The doctors did not consider removing the uterus, instead decided to remove the tumour itself. Any delay in removing the tumour would have caused excessive bleeding, pain in the abdomen and could even cause damage to the kidneys due to pressure on the ureters. In addition, she would not have been able to conceive.
Dr Muralidhar V Pai and team successfully removed the fibroid only without removing the uterus, tubes or ovaries. The patient has recovered quickly from the surgery and was discharged. She is now doing well at home.
Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent Kasturba Hospital, Manipal congratulated the OBG team in performing the surgery with high level of precision.
