Rs 100 crore sought for rain relief in DK: Khader


Mangaluru, Aug 16 (DHNS): District In-charge Minister U T Khader said a proposal for a special package of Rs 100 crore to the district for rain relief measures has been submitted to the government.

He said on Wednesday that 11 persons have lost lives and the flood has only intensified in the district. “Nodal officers have been deployed to handle the situation and home guards to alert the people. Up to 110 families in Uppinangady, 25 in Bantwal and 10 in Ullal have been shifted,” said Khader.

The minister stated that 31 low-lying areas have been identified in the district: Mangaluru taluk — Adyapadi, Malavooru, Anegundi and Alike. Bantwal taluk — Panemangaluru, Haladka, Jakribettu Bastipadpu, Sarapady and Navooru. Belthangady taluk — Shishila, Charmadi and Venooru. Puttur taluk — Uppinangadi, Hosamat, Shiradi, Balthila and Udane. Sullia taluk — Subrahmanya. Kadaba taluk — Hosmutt, Nooji, Kunturu, Perabe, Alangaru and Bilinele. Moodbidri taluk — Valpadi and Moodukonaje and Mulki.

“The Shiradi Ghat Road has been blocked due to landslides, but restoration work is in progress. The Sampaje Ghat Road is blocked. The vehicles are using Charmadi route. The public should cooperate,” he said.

Khader said that the status of the ghat road, rain situations, climate predictions and related topics can be got on the district administration website: dk.nic.in and people can contact toll-free number 1077 in case of emergency.
