Moodbidri: Patriotism on display at Alva’s I-Day celebrations

Moodbidri, Aug 16: The celebration of 72nd Independence Day at Alva’s once again stood true to the glory of all the past celebrations despite of rainfall. The customary venue of celebration, K Sripathi Bhat open theatre made it difficult to utilize owing to incessant rainfall. However, Nudisiri Vedike saw the footfall of around 20000 patriotic spectators which includes the faculties, students and the general public.

The centre of campus at Vidyagiri welcomed the gathering with the portraits of freedom fighters inducing the spirit of nationalism among all. The tricolor was unfurled by the chief guest Dhrmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, synchronised with national anthem. The whole crowd gathered for the celebration waved the flags with full spirit as and when the integration song was sung.



After unfurling the flag, Dhrmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, said the Independence Day is celebrated to mark the integration of divided India. Stressing onto the conflicts based on the religion and regionalism he said, ‘we should not be identified with caste, creed, religion and region instead we must recognise ourselves with Indians first, that will instil spirit of harmony and oneness’. He added and said ‘dividing will perish the nation so it is a need of the hour to ‘unite and cherish'.

He asked the young generation to take pride in the leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh whose principles has inspired liberation of many other countries. Gandhiji’s championing of the cause of non violence as the tool of India’s freedom struggle and success, even holds significant in present era. The contemporary leaders like Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi and Malala Yousafzai strongly influenced by the Gandhian methods, he said.

‘Some 25 to 30 years ago, the world used to think India, we are land of snake charmers. But today our country surprised the world with its development. We are not inferior to any developed country’’, he opined. Symbolising the tricolours to the industrialization, agriculture along with the peaceful life of citizens he is said, ‘we should develop the culture of growing with the nation, which is utmost important for the peaceful coexistence’. He called upon students never intolerant towards disciplinary measures and actions, which keeps everyone well controlled.

Shatasambrama

Event the 100th birthday of Mijarugutthu Anand Alva, ‘Shatasambrama’ program was organised at Nudisiri Vedhike, Vidyagiri. Thousands of his well wishers, relatives, children, students and public honoured him with great pride. To mark the celebration, hundred lights lamp was lit on the occasion.

After inaugurating the program, Dhrmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, said ‘Anand Alva is man action, he never comprise with letting things go down’. His strong association with agriculture and other allied activities, made him successful in life. Though he not earned much, but he won the hearts of many with his simplicity and straightforward nature.

Kolhapur based Swar- Ninad troupe presented ‘Jago Hindustani’, patriotic songs and inspirational narratives on the occasion.

Chancellor of Nitte University Dr N Vinay Hegde, legislator Umanath Kotyan, former minister K Abhay Chandra Jain, Mijarugutthu Anand Alva’s children Dr Seetharam Alva, Meenakshi Jayakar Alva, Balakrishna Alva, Dr M Mohan Alva and others present on the occasion.
