Puttur, Aug 15: The 72nd celebration of Independence Day was a colourful event at St hilomena High School here on August 15.
Madhu Nariyuru unfurled the national flag and the gathering paid respect to the nation. Luis Mascarenhas, retired teacher, popularly known as NDS presided over the programme. Madhu Nariyuru, alumni and sportsperson in his school days cherished memories and remembered the role of his teachers and alma mater in inculcating love and respect for the nation. A successful agriculturist and role model to students, Madhu Nariyuru was felicitated on the occasion.
Advaith Rai from Class IX and Samrudhi Shenoy from Class X spoke on the importance of the day and remembered the contributions of freedom fighters toward the nation’s freedom.
The three wings of the National Cadet Corps namely army, navy and air force made the event very attractive and meaningful by their display under the able guidance of F/O Peter Naresh Lobo, S/O Clement Pinto and S/O Roshan Sequeira. Parade master Vikram Chandra led the parade.
The president of Old Students Association N K Jaganivas Rao, joint secretary of PTA Usha Kiran, headmistress of St Philomena Primary School Sr Lora, Fr Peter Gonsalves were present on the dais.
Headmaster Oswald Rodrigues welcomed the gathering and Rajashekar compered the programme and Molly Fernandes delivered the vote of thanks.
The past students, parents and teachers were also present on the occasion.
