Karachi, Oct 13: Fast bowling great and former captain Waqar Younis is ready to offer his services to Pakistan cricket despite being removed as bowling coach in acrimonious manner last year before the World Cup by PCB.
"The former chairman, Nasim Ashraf did great injustice with me in the matter he forced me to step down as bowling coach last year. But I am still willing to serve Pakistan cricket in any way the Board wants me," Waqar said.
Waqar had a public spat with the former chairman and other board officials last year when they refused to send him with the team to the World Cup insisting his job description was to train youngsters at the national cricket academy.
Waqar challenged this and insisted his job description and contractual clauses outlined him as national team bowling coach and he stepped down in protest.
Ironically while Waqar is in Toronto as a commentator, former chairman Nasim Ashraf also visited the Maple leaf ground to watch Pakistan play Sri Lanka.
Ashraf supported the appointment of former Test player, Ejaz Butt as the new chairman saying he was an experienced administrator and understood cricket. He also said the government had done the right thing by not appointing a politician as chairman of PCB.
Waqar said he had forgotten and forgiven how Ashraf had treated him in the past and believed in looking ahead.
"For the betterment and improvement of Pakistan cricket my services are always available. I pray that cricket flourishes in Pakistan. It is very important for foreign teams to tour Pakistan," he said.
The former captain said the appointment of Ejaz Butt as chairman of PCB was a good sign for Pakistan cricket and hoped he would involve more former cricketers in running the board.
"I am happily settled in Australia with my family and I don't want anything from Pakistan cricket, it has already given me a lot. But if ever they need me I am there for them," Waqar said.
However, Waqar warned Butt to remain aware of those people in the Board who have brought Pakistan cricket to ruin.
"At the moment Butt should concentrate on organising international cricket for the team because if foreign teams refuse to tour Pakistan we will go back a lot," he said.
