Puttur: Contemptuous article against Ramchandrapur Math - journalist gets bail

Puttur, Jul 31: Journalist, Parvathish, better known with his pen name, Bilidale Esha, who was accused of writing contemptuous article against Ramachandrapur Math based in Hosanagar, secured bail through a court here on Saturday July 28.

A person named Keshava Krishna had filed private complaint against journalist, Gauri Lankesh, and senior journalist, Parvathish, for publishing an article in Gauri Lankesh Patrike in 2015, showing Ramachandrapur Math in poor light. The court, The which looked into this private complaint, had directed the town police here to register a case, investigate it, and take appropriate action.

The police, who investigated the case, had filed 'B' report in the court. The complainant had filed appeal against this report. The chief senior judge's court here, which upheld Keshava Krishna's appeal, had concluded that it was a cognizable offence, and accordingly directed police to register case against the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 295 (A), 153, and 505.

In this case, Gauri Lankesh, had surrendered in the court and obtained bail. Parvathish had not secured bail, and summons issued against him continued to be in force. On Saturday, he presented himself before the court and filed bail application through advocates, Ashraf K Agnadi, Abdul Majeed Khan, and Mustafa Kadaba. The court which heard the bail application, granted bail to him.

Main accused in the case, Gauri Lankesh, was murdered a few months back.
