Madikeri, Jul 30: The highway that connects Madikeri to Mangaluru got damaged due to the recent incessant rains, which has created potholes in many places and at some areas even the road is collapsed due to a landslide. Now, a huge crater has formed at Katakeri near here on the highway and vehicular traffic is affected.
Around three feet deep circular crater is formed right in the center of the national highway. The concerned officials are suspecting that this crater must have formed on the late night of Sunday, July 30. As precautionary measure barricades are placed near the pothole to avert any danger. As the crater is formed right in the center of the road, the movement of heavy vehicles is affected.
Police and PWD officials have visited the spot and have assured of required repair of the affected part of the road.
Though the rains have stopped since a week, the rains that poured for one month in the past has increased the groundwater level inside the earth and caused the collapse of walls and houses in many places in the district of Kodagu. One portion of the Madikeri-Mangaluru highway had collapsed last week itself and the formation of crater now had given signs of impending danger that might occur in future.
