Davanagere, Jul 27: In connection with a four-year old accident, as per court orders, two Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses belonging to Haveri depot were seized by the court staff on Thursday July 26 for non-payment of compensation. It is said that the corporation has failed to pay compensation of Rs 2.82 crore to the concerned relating to this tragedy.

The case relates to the death of Sanjeev Patil, a software engineer working as software engineer for IBM here, in an accident near Tumakuru toll on November 6, 2013 after a KSRTC bus of Haveri depot knocked him down. In this case, the court had ordered payment of compensation amounting to Rs 2.82 crore to the distressed family.

Sanjeev Patil was the husband of Gauri, who happens to be the daughter of Kiruwadi Somanna, a respected businessman from Davanagere. Patil had got down from the bus near Tumakuru toll on his way to Bengaluru for relieving himself after his bus had stopped. At this time, a bus of Haveri depot had hit him. Sanjeev is survived by wife, Gauri, and two daughters. Gauri S Patil had filed case in Davanagere court seeking compensation. Based on the fact that Sanjeev Patil used to draw salary of Rs 2.1 lac, the second additional court here had ordered KSRTC Haveri depot to pay compepnsation of Rs 2,82,42,558 to the family of the deceased software engineer.

KSRTC officials accepted the court verdict but harassed the family by keeping the payment pending for several years. In view of this delay, two buses of Haveri depot, one that was bound for Bengaluru, and another that was returning from Bengaluru, were seized. The court has ordered seizure of eight KSRTC buses, and six more buses are expected to be taken into possession.

Wife of Sanjeev, Gauri S Patil, father-in-law of the deceased, Kiruwadi Somanna, well-known merchants, Kiruwadi Somanna and Sridhar were present during the seizure of buses by court officials. Gauri said that she will fight till justice is done, and the KSRTC Haveri depot officials disburse the compensation to her as ordered by the court.

This is a clear example how govt. officials fail to recognize court orders and keep harassing victims of injustice.

Concerned officials must be arrested as well.
