Udupi, Jul 26: The All College Students' Union held a massive protest against the present carry-over system in polytechnic colleges and denying free bus pass for polytechnic students at Manipal on Wednesday, July 25.
Addressing the protestors, president of All College Students’ Union, Dinakar Shetty said, “chief minister H D Kumaraswamy led state government denied free bus passes for students. There are many students who travel from rural areas and depend on government buses. Basic facilities such as library and computer labs are not been provided to government colleges.”
“HDK’s son has property worth crores and he is an actor. But poor cannot afford bus fare. If HD Kumaraswamy is really a farmer’s son, he should understand the problems of the poor,” he added.
He further said, “CM said that the government needs Rs 630 crore for providing free bus pass and it would be an additional financial burden on the government. If the ministers have concern for the students, let them contribute their one month salary to balance the required amount. Political leaders must not restrict themselves to public speech. Hundreds of girls are raped but there is no stringent punishment for the rapists. Cases of sexual assaults, molestation and rapes are increasing, but the victims’ families have not received any compensation.”
“The government has made 80% mandatory attendance. Students are the assets of the nation. The enrolment for polytechnic courses has come down. It will affect the future of technology development. Government must focus on personality development of the students and it has to simplify some norms.”
“Ineligible leaders who do not have knowledge about polytechnic have occupied higher position. Those who are capable are not getting chance. The government is dividing students based on caste system. The government did not appoint a district-in-charge minister for Udupi. If there is any problem comes, where students are supposed to go? The government is using the hall ticket as a weapon to control the students,” Dinkar Shetty alleged.
“Hence, ASCU demands implementation of complete carry over system for polytechnic colleges,” he added.
Raghuveer, district president of ASCU, members of the ASCU Suraj Indrali, Ranjan, Sachin, Ramanji, Manoj, Mohith and students of Dr TMA Pai Polytechnic, Manipal, Government Polytechnic College and Indrali Shiva Rao Polytechnic College were present.
