Mandya, Jul 19: An incident which happened at Nayisinganahalli in K R Pet taluk of the district on Wednesday July 18 brought back memories of a recent attack on three perceived child thieves in Bidar district wherein a person lost his life and two suffered serious injuries.
In the current incident, suspecting a man to be a child lifter, the general public beat him up black and blue. The person who came under attack was Mahesh from Hindupur located on the state's border with Andhra Pradesh. Mahesh had married Asha from Lokanahalli in K R Pet taluk after falling in love with her. After the couple had a bitter fight over some issue three months back, Asha had started living with her parents here. The couple's young son had been admitted into Aghalaya school near Asha's parental home.
The child had been sent to school on Wednesday morning by the school vehicle. Mahesh, who had come to the village, stopped the school vehicle and tried to forcefully take his son away with him. The son resisted this attempt. The people, who saw that Mahesh had arrived there by a car bearing Andhra Pradesh registration number, brutally assaulted him, thinking him to be a member of a gang involved with thefts of children.
Mahesh's wife who came to the spot after learning about the incident, confessed that the victim of the attack was her husband and not child trafficker. The police officials of K R Pet summoned both of them to the police station and sent them back after questioning.
