Udupi, Jul 18: Adani owned UPCL, which is generating 1,200 MW of electricity at Yellur village, on Wednesday July 18 kick-started concreting three roads in the villages of Belapu gram panchayat under its CSR programme.
Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, president of Belapu gram panchayat and Kishore Alva, joint president of Adani, flagged off the construction work by way of Bhoomi Pooja in the presence of panchayat members and villagers. The total cost of the roads is Rs 36 lac and Adani UPCL is taking-up the work under Rural Infrastructure Development initiative of CSR programme.
Performing Bhoomi Pooja, Dr Devi Prasad Shetty told UPCL that after Adani Group took over, special attention for the overall development of surrounding villages is given and for that reason it has declared a special CSR grant. The company is taking-up the work from the declared CSR grant as per the activities given by panchayats in their kriyayojana. He applauded the company’s CSR initiatives in the field of education, health, rural infrastructure development and the concern of the company in overall village development has gained the confidence of the local populace.
Kishore Alva said that Belapu village is known as a model village in the Asian continent and one should appreciate Dr Deviprasad Shetty’s contribution for making Belapu as a model gram panchayat. Alva said that Dr Deviprasad had a vision to raise rural areas on par with the cities in the urban areas and his efforts made the district administration to include Belapu GP under special CSR grant of Adani UPCL.
Alva explained that Belapu grama panchayat has been declared a special CSR grant of Rs 3 crore for a period of three years and till date Adani UPCL has completed 10 development works worth Rs 72 lac in the Belapu villages as per the Kriya Yojane of panchayat and today three roads are being developed at a cost of Rs 36 lac. Further, four village development works worth Rs 40 lac have been approved and are in the process of tendering, which will soon be executed as committed.
During the occasion of road inauguration Belapu gram panchayat vice president Shobha Bhat, Shekabba, taluk panchayat member, panchayat members Dinesh Poojary, Suresh Devadiga, Anita Anand, Noor Jahan Faisam Banu, Vijayalakshmi Devadiga, Karunakara Shetty, Ushavasu, Sharath Kumar, Zaheer Ahmed, Panchayat Development Officer H R Ramesh, Adani UPCL’s AGM Girish Navada, Sr manager Ravi R Jere, Adani Foundation staff Vineet Anchan, Anudeep Poojary and Sukesh Suvarna were present.
