Sullia, Jul 18: In an accident which occurred at Yenekallu on Manjeshwara - Subrahmanya state highway in the taluk on the night of Monday July 16, a bus operated by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) got involved in a head-on collision with a private bus. In this accident, the driver of the KSRTC bus suffered serious injuries.
A private bus moving to Bengaluru from Subrahmanya via Panja, Bellare and the town, collided with the KSRTC bus that was bound from Subrahmanya from Puttur. The seriously injured KSRTC driver was admitted into hospital after calling for an ambulance. The driver of the private bus escaped with minor injuries on his leg. A few of the passengers in both the buses suffered minor nicks and cuts. Subrahmanya police arrived at the spot, conducted verification and registered a case.
As both the buses collided in the middle of the road, traffic was thrown out of gear there for about two hours. Both the buses got tangled with each other, making the task of separating them difficult. Long lines of vehicles were formed on either side of the highway. Backhoes were pressed into service to separate the buses and take them away from the spot.
