Udupi, Jul 13: “Agents are looters and crave to get bribe from vehicle owners. Though people are educated, they are used to playing bribes,” said G A Koteyar, president, Mass India NGO Karnataka, in a press meet on Friday, July 13.
He said, “Private agents are the biggest trouble makers to common people in RTO. This is one of the corrupt departments. The department is supposed to issue license in 15 days after applying. Here in Udupi RTO, nothing will happen unless one pays additional money to the department.
“The agents charges Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 fee per license. If a financially poor person goes to RTO, the officials will give excuses that web portal is not working, though there is no fault,” he alleged.
He further said, “Prime Minister Modi is dreaming about digital India, but large number of people stand in queues to get their work done.
“Vijay Suvarna, who fought for 15 years to get his license renewed. The RTO agent demanded Rs 2,400, but he paid Rs 1,400. Then he approached Mass India NGO. Later, he got his license renewed.
“If the new web portal is being installed, there is provision to enter details in the old web portal. Our NGO was started with the aim of helping the poor,” he said.
Narasimha Murthy and Vijaya Suvarna were present.
