Karkala, Jul 7: The high school and PU divisions of the reputed Christ King educational institute here observed Press Day on Friday, July 6.

Special reporter and head of Mangaluru bureau of Vishwavani newspaper, Jithendra Kundeshwara was the chief guest. Speaking after lighting the lamp, he said that the trust on news media is decreasing because of false and provocative news in social media. “Therefore, journalists should work towards getting the trust back. The TV media has protected the faith for the time being. Journalists are an indivisible part of society. While doctors maintain the health of people, journalists maintain the health of society,” he said.

Christ King education trust member Dr Peter Fernandes who chaired the programme said that journalists unite the world. “Evil activities in the society would have increased if there were no journalists. Those who commit mistakes are afraid of journalists if not of anybody else. Social justice can be seen in society because of newspaper media,” he said.

Senior journalist, Vijayavani newspaper reporter R B Jagadish was felicitated on the occasion. Professor in the college, Dr Narayana Shedikaje delivered the key note address about the intention of holding Press Day.

High school headmistress Janet Lobo and management official Kevin D’Mello were on the dais. Several news reporters of newspapers and TV media were present. Commerce lecturer Prakash Bhat welcomed and Kannada teacher Shivakumar thanked. Kannada lecturer Umesh Bellipady compered the programme.
