Bengaluru: Transfer of senior IPS officer - HC refuses stay against CAT order

Bengaluru, Jul 6: The Karnataka high court (HC) has refused to issue stay order against the transfer order as well as the verdict of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which has upheld the transfer order of the government, in connection with the transfer of senior IPS officer, Amrit Paul.

The HC has already issued notice to the state government after Paul filed petition challenging the above orders. But the government is yet to file its objections. The HC accordingly told the petitioner that it would not be possible to stay the operation of the said orders without obtaining statement of the defendants and without holding any hearing. The petition stands posted to July 24 for further hearing.

The state government, on March 9 this year, had transferred 18 IPS officers including Amrit Paul, and 12 IAS officers. Amrit Paul had questioned the validity of this order in the CAT. The CAT which heard the petition came to the conclusion that the said transfer was in order. Amrit Paul has therefore knocked at the doors of the HC seeking cancellation of the order.
