Beltangady, Sep 27: The Beltangady police, with help from Hindu organizations, detected a case of illegal transportation of cattle under inhuman conditions in a vehicle. Two of the cattle heads were found to have died due to the pathetic condition in which they were loaded in the vehicle.
In an operation launched early morning after the policemen were tipped-off by the members of some Hindu organizations on Friday September 26, the policemen intercepted a pick-up truck, and found that 20 heads of cattle, which had been loaded duly tying up their front and hind legs were being transported therein. Two cows from among them had died, while the horns of some of the cows in the truck had been broken.
The vehicle tried to give the policemen a slip, but the policemen, after a chase, succeeded in intercepting it. Mohammed Iqbal (28) from Jokatte near Mangalore was arrested in the incident.
