Mangalore, Sep 25: As the widening work of the national highway 17 is in progress, one-way traffic has been enforced at a stretch of road opposite Shubhagiri Hall, Suratkal. The vehicles are forced to move at a snail's pace, and the drivers of vehicles who lose patience, are giving rise to accidents.
A serial accident occurred at the spot on the evening of Wednesday September 24. A truck moving towards the city tried to overtake a tanker ahead, and hit the tanker from behind. The tanker jerked ahead and hit a tipper. The tipper then hit a van from behind. All the vehicles have suffered damages. No deaths or injuries were reported. Traffic on the highway was thrown out of gear for some time thereafter.
At the same spot, a two-wheeler driver was injured in the morning on Wednesday. Kabir (27) from Krishnapur, who was going to Panambur in his Kinetic vehicle, hit a pick-up truck. Kabir was injured in the accident. Vehicular traffic was severely disrupted thereafter.
