Kuwait: KWAK Members Celebrate Monti Fest with Fervour

Kuwait, Sep 17: Monti Fest, commemorating the Nativity of our Mother Mary and celebrating the new harvest, was marked by the Kanajar Welfare Association Kuwait (KWAK), also known as Lourdes Kanajar Zamath Kuwait, at the residence of Rose Mendonca, KWAK coordinator, recently.

All the members had a wonderful time filled with the joy of cooking, dining, chatting, and jokes. It was a memorable event for the otherwise quiet Kanajar community in the country. The programme started around noon with the novena of Our Lady of Lourdes followed by Monti Fest hymns.

KWAK president Antony Miranda welcomed the gathering. Games were organized for children and adults alike.  This was followed by a delicious meal served in the traditional way on plantain leaves. Over a dozen members were involved in the preparation of a variety of items including 'vorn', including 'aludento', 'alsande', 'bende', 'podvolen', 'karathen', 'sono-thendlim', 'koromb', 'pothrade', and special pickle of 'kajur' (dates). It was all done in a manner similar to how the festival would have been celebrated in Kanajar.

The next endeavour of the association will be 'Kidchamp–2009'. A committee has been formed for the purpose and will have its meeting on Friday September 26, at the residence of  Lawrence Saldanha, Mahaboula.
