The “Gulf Voice of Mangalore” Reality Konkani Singing Contest, Bahrain leg, is scheduled to take place on the 9th October, 2008, at the Ramada Palace Hotel with a ten-member musicians’ troupe and famous singers from the Konkani world arriving Bahrain from Mangalore and performing for their fans after the Contest. Two of the best selected from the 11 contestants by a panel of musician judges, would be proceeding to Kuwait for the grand finale on 17th October, 2008.
The program began with a silent prayer and the President of the Association, Mr. Ronald D. F. D’Souza welcoming the gathering of contestants, members and their families. Mr. Ronald D’Souza, explained the Rules and Regulations of the Contest. An envelope specially sent by the Youth Recreation Club, Kuwait, containing a letter detailing the Rules of the Contest, was handed over personally to each of the Contestant by Mr. Ronald D’Souza, with the audience cheering with applause. The Contestants were requested to adhere to the guidelines given in the letter, which also nominated the song they would be singing for the Contest. He informed the contestants on the rehearsal of the program which would be held a day previous to the contest, when each Contestant would be given 15 minutes of quality time to practice with the musical troupe. More details on the Rehearsal would be announced in due course to all the participants.
Present on the dais was the Secretary of the Association, Joe Andrade.
As an added attraction, the good old Konkani movie, ‘AMCHEM NOXIB’ was screened on the digital screen and the audience given the taste of those nostalgic Konkani songs, that enthralled the Konkani world nearly 50 years ago. It was like going down memory lane for some of the elderly members who remembered having seen the film when they were little children. Some even felt like waltzing with those nostalgic songs like, “Mogan Aasoun Borem”!
