Moodbidri: Death of two friends at Karinje hill - Police arrest absconding accused

Moodbidri, Mar 29: Within a week of the incident, the police have arrested the absconding accused in connection with death of two friends who had gone hunting and were found dead beside Aranta Bakyaru fields on March 22.

Shekar (23), a resident of Aranta Bakyaru, was arrested on Thursday March 29. Another accused is absconding.

Greshion Rodrigues, a resident of Prantya village paper mill, and Praveen Tauro, a resident of Kakkebettu had gone hunting in the forest of Karinje hill on the night of March 20 and had gone missing. Their bodies were found near Aranta Bakyaru fields on March 22.

It was suspected that the friends might have died after coming into contact with live electric wires erected by locals to hunt wild animals.

Soon after the incident, two locals went missing and the police started a search operation for them. Among them, Shekar has been arrested.

Sources said that Shekar has confessed to laying electric wires for hunting the animals that reportedly killed Greshion and Praveen.

Police have intensified the search for the other accused in the incident.

The arrested Shekar has been sent to judicial custody for fifteen days.

The electric connection, if any, should have been taken from some domestic place like a farm house; how else can a layman connect wires from a live electric pole w/o connivance of Mescom personnel?

Secondly, there will be clinching forensic evidence on postmortem if a person has died due to electric shock! Also, police should find the electrical contraption placed at the site of accident as evidence!

How would anybody go to hunt wild boars w/o a firearm if the victims were not known to the accused??

There seems to be much more to the story than what is written!!

"How would anybody go to hunt wild boars w/o a firearm if the victims were not known to the accused??"

    (1) The accused may have gone to check what animal fell in the trap he laid and upon seeing humans he may have taken their fire arms for his future hunting. And then, fled, fearing the police will eventually end up at his door step.

    (2) You are right - there could have been some pending issues because both the parties are illegal hunters. May have agreed to meet at some random spot. Probably they unknowingly walked into the trap the accused had habitually laid.

    Jennifer,
Question is how would the victims know the exact spot where the trap was set unless they knowing the accused personally, or could be they got the info indirectly of the accused setting traps somewhere in that vicinity; and when searching for the trap in the deep foliage, unfortunately, came in contact with it!! On knowing, the accused might have destroyed the contraption and escaped out of fear, but only thorough investigation will reveal the truth as one more suspect is at large!!

Traps are set randomly and at different locations each time. But to those who are regular in the business, even a small pulled branch gives a clue. However, given the density of the forest, failure to notice a thin wire is obvious.

It appears that one man got into the trap and the second tried to get him out of it - since its electricity, both got pulled-in. The accused must have shocked to see humans in place of an animal. Panicked, he removed all his fittings and fled. May also have taken their fire arms which we will know only after investigation is complete.

Something is fishy, hope they do a thorough investigation n get into the root of the matter to get out the truth, or it will be just another accidental death!

It’s not hundreds of kms. There are fields and plantation there and electricity is provided to those fields and hard a km away from the electric pole.
@ Rakesh it’s easy to flaunt a politician but pain of losing someone so tragically in unimaginable and when we see that u promote ur political views how heartless are you.

    Joseph,

Will you ride without an helmet ? No, because it protects you and in turn you live longer to protect your family. Will you drive without a Life Insurance ? No, because in any unfortunate eventuality, your family will still be benefited.

Now, will you refrain from venturing into something illegal ? Because one day you will be caught and subjected to legal action ? Well, no, because you want to give it a try as long as the luck is on your side. And when it didn't, why are you blaming the person who snatched the luck away from you ? Aren't your family members and your presence at a wrong situation supposed to be your headache ? Is it at-once of that of the other person ?

As for the person who laid the trap to wild boars, let him answer the law. Whether he is protecting his produce from the animals, or if his motives were to trap and kill the animals. If humans strayed into forest area and walked into the trap, its their turn to take half the responsibility because they are supposed to be in the human habitat, not wild animals habitat.
