Moodbidri, Mar 20: The police, on Monday March 19, arrested three hostel wardens of Alva's group of educational institutions on the allegation of beating up students who had celebrated conclusion of their examinations by bursting of crackers in the hostel.
The arrested wardens have been identified as Khader K, Rajesh, and Nagesh. The police made the arrests on the basis of a complaint lodged by a student, Prajwal Rao, who was one of the victims of the attack. The wardens were produced in the court here on Monday itself.
It is said that on the night of Saturday March 17, the students had violated college rules while celebrating the conclusion of second PU examination. In Pushpagiri hostel of Alva's college, students burst crackers, let out loud cries of jubilation and behaved in an indisciplined manner, it is said. When the wardens questioned the students, reportedly the students threatened them. The students, during their visit to canteen, had also engaged in argument with the staff there, by complaining that the food served was not good enough. Reportedly, some students whose behaviour was found to be rancorous were hit by the wardens with sticks.
The police are investigating the case.
