Udupi, Mar 14: Three days after Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math announced his decision to contest the Assembly elections this time either as an independent or on BJP's ticket, the district BJP made it clear that it would not invite the Swamiji to join the party or contest as its candidate.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday March 13, district BJP president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde said, "Shiroor Swamiji has had close relations with the BJP for 30 years. After his press meet, I met him and received prasadam from him. He is criticising the party only now, after 30 years. On the one hand, he is talking in support of Pramod Madhwaraj, on the other hand he is willing to contest on BJP's ticket. He should give clarification on his stand."
Brushing aside Shiroor Swamiji's remarks that BJP in Udupi was not doing well, he said, "BJP has been cent percent right in terms of doing its duty. We welcome all those want to join the BJP, but we will not welcome Shiroor Swamiji. The BJP high command will take the final deciion. He has expressed his disappointment with the BJP. I do not know what he wants from us. BJP will not offer the ticket to him, that is very clear. There is no need for him to join the BJP to 'set it right'. We are not in need of any such person."
