Mangaluru, Mar 10: St Ann’s College of Education on March 9 celebrated International Women’s Day on the theme ‘Press for Progress’, highlighting the status of rights and progress made for all women in society.

The aim was to inculcate in students a deep quest for knowledge about the challenges women face and to acknowledge the social, political and economic achievements of women around the world.

The programme was followed by an invocation and a prayer dance. A documentary on women’s rights was highlighted which shed a message on women ignited by the spirit of power and hope. A still drama was performed by the students depicting the strengths underlying a woman. A couple of students expressed their thoughts in the form of a poem and contemporary dance.

The chief guest Dr Rita Noronha, director for Centre for Development Studies and Education in her message spoke about how women have acquired a role as a leader by shouldering multiple roles at home and in society. She also quoted that equality between men and women will not be a waste of time and effort if a woman acts upon herself the ability to be competitive with men.

Dr Sr Clare AC, principal in her message spoke on the many achievements and skills emancipated by women in different walks of life. Laveena D’Sa, assistant professor coordinated the programme. Nirvana D’Souza and Vanitha, student teachers compered the programme.
