Mangaluru, Mar 9: St Aloysius Evening College celebrated its 52nd College Day on Thursday, March 8 in the St Aloysius High School hall.
Rajendra D S, ACP, Mangaluru North division and Jeevan Saldanha, founder and CEO of Spectrum Industries and former president of KCCI, were the chief guests. Fr Dionysius Vaz, rector, St Aloysius College Institutions presided over the function. Principal Dr Manohar V Serrao, presented an excellent annual college report. Fr Dr Praveen Martis, administrator, SAEC, Ravi Shetty, vice-principal, and the office bearers of the students’ council were present on the occasion. Udaya, convenor, college day committee, welcomed the gathering. Hitesh Madivala, president, Students’ Council, rendered the vote of thanks.
Chief guests Rajendra D S and Jeevan Saldanha, who spoke on the occasion, congratulated the students for opting for an evening college and lauded them for their hard work during the day and studies in the evening. They challenged the students to dream big and focus on it with determination and enthusiasm to achieve it.
Fr Dionysius Vaz, in his presidential remarks congratulated the college for reaching out to those who are marginalised and denied the opportunity to continue their education and wished that College would continue to uphold the main objectives of Jesuit education.
‘Sandya Deepa’, the college annual magazine, was released by the rector during the function. Prizes were distributed to the student achievers who excelled in the fields of academics, sports and extra-curricular activities. The formal programme ended with the singing of the college anthem. This was followed by a unique cultural programme which displayed the multi-faceted talents of the students. The highlight of the variety entertainment was a 38 minute dance-drama ‘Divya Bhavya Baduku’ directed and produced by Dr Mahalinga Bhat and Kavitha Avinash, comprising of 75 student artistes performing 11 dances of different genres to the tune of songs in 11 different languages. The staff and students of St Aloysius Evening College, parents, alumni, well-wishers and other friends of the college were present in the audience.
