Mangaluru, Mar 7: MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik requested the minister of primary school and high school education to withdraw the recent circular by the commissioner of the department of public instruction, Bengaluru asking high schools to hold examinations for 8th and 9th standards from March 21 to April 7 this year.
In a letter addressed to the minister, he stated that the circular regarding the examinations for the year 2017-18 has caused much confusions. "The circular asks schools to complete the examinations for 8th and 9th standards between March 21, 2018 and April 7, 2018. SSLC examinations will be held from March 23, 2018 to April 6, 2018. It is difficult to hold SSLC and other examinations together during the same period.
"Availability of examination halls, availability of teachers, valuation of answer papers, recording of marks, preparation of progress report, announcement of results and SSLC valuation will definitely be problematic.
"It is appropriate to avoid problems as the question papers for 8th and 9th standards are prepared at high school level and entrust the responsibility of conducting those examinations to the respective school headmasters like in the past.
"Therefore, I urge the minister of primary and high school education to withdraw the circular sent by the commissioner at the end of academic year so that the headmasters of respective schools hold examinations for 8th and 9th standard as before and prevent problems to the most important SSLC examinations," Karnik stated.
