Puttur, Mar 5: On the occasion of diamond jubilee celebrations, St Philomena College in association with Mangalore University organized Mangaluru zone and inter zonal level Shri Rathnavarma Heggade Rolling Trophy Kabaddi Tournament for men 2017-18 at St Philomena play ground.
MLA of Puttur constituency and parliamentary secretary to chief minister, government of Karnataka Shakunthala T Shetty inaugurated the tournament on March 2. The alumnus and former international kabaddi player Udaya Chowta participated as the chief guest. Campus director Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, assistant director, department of Physical Education, Mangalore University Dr Prasanna P R, principal of St Philomena PU College Fr Vijay Lobo, alumnus and president of Puttur Taluk Amateur Kabaddi Association Chandrahasa Rai, alumnus and physical director of Sacred Heart College Madanthyar Elias Pinto, alumnus and pro kabaddi player Prashanth Rai, alumnus and proprietor of Sizzlers Group Prasanna Kumar Shetty participated as the guests of honour.
The members of Performing Arts Association presented the prayer song. Principal Prof Leo Noronha welcomed the gathering. Physical director Prakash D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks. Faculties of the college Bharathi S Rai and Dimple Fernandes compered the programme.
The valedictory ceremony of the tournament was held on March 4. Campus director Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of St Philomena PU College Fr Vijay Lobo, director, Department of Physical Education, Mangalore University Dr Kishor Kumar C K, alumnus and captain of Karnataka state women’s senior kabaddi team Navyashree participated as the guests of honour. Principal Prof Leo Noronha was present on this occasion. Vice-president of Catholic Board of Education and vicar general of Mangalore Diocese Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu presided over the programme.
Alva’s College Moodbidri secured the first place in inter zonal tournament and bagged Shri Rathnavarma Heggade Rolling Trophy. SDM College Ujire bagged runner-up trophy. Sacred Heart College Madanthyar secured the bronze medal and Mangalore University Campus team secured the fourth prize.
In Mangaluru zone, SDM College Ujire bagged championship trophy. Sacred Heart College Madanthyar secured second prize. Mangalore University campus team secured the third prize and St Philomena College Puttur secured the fourth prize.
Student Welfare Officer Dr Vijaya Kumar M welcomed the gathering. Physical director Prakash D’Souza presented the details of prize winners. Physical director Sowmyalatha K rendered the vote of thanks. Faculties of the college Nancy Laveena Pinto and Shashiprabha B compered the programme.
