Mysuru, Mar 2: A man allegedly killed his daughter by poisoning and later burnt her body for being in love with a Dalit youth.
The incident was reported from Gollanabeedu village in HD Kote taluk of the district.
Sushma (22) is the deceased.
Sushma's father Kumar was arrested by police on Thursday, March 1.
Sushma, who belongs to the Vokkaliga community, was in love with Umesh from Alanahalli village on the outskirts of Mysuru.
Sushma had eloped with Umesh two years ago. Some village elders had brought her back to the village after advising both Umesh and Sushma to stay away from each other.
Recently Sushma's parents told her to marry a boy from their community. She opposed the marriage and insisted on marrying only Umesh. Her parents allegedly poisoned her on February 22 in a fit of rage and burnt her body in their field. Later Kumar even ploughed the land so that no one would doubt that Sushma was killed.
As Sushma disappeared suddenly, it raised suspicion among the villagers. Some relatives of Kumar's family alerted the police.
Police registered a suo moto case and took up investigations.
Subsequently police arrested Kumar and brought him to the land where he had burnt the body of Sushma and conducted a mahazar.
