Bengaluru, Feb 20: With hardly a couple of months left for the ensuing Assembly elections in the state, JD(S) leader G T Deve Gowda moved a breach of privilege motion against his arch rival and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Monday for the latter’s son laying foundation stones for various developmental works in the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency.
The JD(S) leader alleged that Dr Yathindra’s actions amounted to curtailing his rights by laying the foundation stones to various development works in the constituency.
Yathindra, who is the chairman of the Varuna constituency Housing Schemes Awareness Committee, has been laying foundation stones to development projects under the Chamundeshwari constituency, side-lining the people’s representative.
Gowda, who moved the motion, said the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru District has issued an order directing all authorities to launch development works with the presence of the local MLA. The order has been respected least by the CM’s son, he said.
Dr Yathindra and other Congress leaders took part in a programme to launch various works under Srirampura Gram Panchayat on February 9.
BJP Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar and Govind Karjol (BJP) too supported Gowda’s motion and told Speaker K B Koliwad that legislators had been for-granted by the ruling Congress government.
Later, the Speaker referred the matter to the Privileges Committee and ended the discussion.
