Hosapete, Feb 20: A clash between two groups broke out in Hosapete town during the Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti procession on Monday, February 19.
Hindu Jagarana Vedike workers and a group of Muslim youth are the two groups engaged in the clashes.
The procession was taken out by Vedike. The trouble broke out when a Vedike worker attempted to tie a flag to a pole and was thrashed by a group of Muslim youths.
Angered by this, Hindu Jagarana Vedike workers started pelting stones at the nearby mosque and shattered its glass windows.
The violence later aggravated when the two groups clashed with each other.
Assistant Commissioner Gargi Jain rushed to the spot with police personnel and quelled the mob. Police pleaded with the angry protesters to remain calm and call off their protest.
Vedike workers had blocked the highway and all vehicles bound for Shivamogga and Raichur inconveniencing the road users.
