Bengaluru, Feb 19: Mohammed Nalapad, son of Congress MLA N A Haris, on Monday February 19 surrendered before the Cubbon Park police for allegedly assaulting a youth in a restaurant and later in a hospital.
The police on Monday morning had searched the residence of Shantinagar MLA N A Haris looking for Nalapad who was said to have gone absconding.
Police had registered FIR against Nalapad and his friends for attacking a youth on Saturday February 17.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP and JD(S) began a protest outside Cubbon Park police station the against police department for not taking immediate action against the culprit and alleged political influence in the case.

Bengaluru: Brutal attack on youth by Mohammed Nalapad - Police search MLA Haris' house
Bengaluru, Feb 19: In connection with the deadly attack on a youth in a restaurant and later in a hospital by Mohammed Nalapad, son of Congress leader and MLA of Shantinagar N A Haris, the police on Monday February 19 searched the residence of the MLA at Shantinagar here at around 9.15 am.
The police have already arrested five persons for the brutal attack on Vidwath (24). The arrested are Abhishek, Arun, Balakrishna, Manjunath and Rachik. Nalapad is absconding.
MLA Haris has been claiming that he has done nothing wrong and that the law will takes its own course. Speaking to media persons outside his residence, Haris said his son's cellphone was switched off after he spoke to him and chided him for his behaviour and hence he could not do anything in the matter. He also said that he had already visited Vidwath in the hospital and expressed regret over his son's act.
He said he has now been able to contact his son after the latter spoke to his mother, and that he will arrange for the surrender of his son in the police station soon. He asked people not to politicize the issue and requested journalists not to sensationalize it. He felt that opposition parties are making a big issue out of this incident because of forthcoming election.
People have been questioning as to why did the police require 35 hours to procure search warrant and reach the residence of Nalapad, against whom a police complaint was lodged on Saturday. The police have claimed that they could not secure search warrant on Sunday and that they reached the legislator's residence after getting information that Nalapad was present inside. After a prolonged wait at the gate, two among the police officers were let into the house. It is yet unknown whether Mohammed Nalapad is inside the house or not.
Soon after the incident was reported in the media, the Congress expelled Mohammed Nalapad, who was serving as Youth Congress general secretary, for a period of six years.
In the meanwhile, the state home minister, Ramalinga Reddy, has ordered suspension of some police officers including inspector of Cubbon Park police station, Vijay Hadagali. for failing to beat the deadline of 8 pm on Sunday set by him for the arrest of the accused. One of the assistant commissioners of police was also transferred, it is learnt.
It may be recalled that sons of Minister, K J George, and MLA, Vijayanand Kashappanavar, too had got involved with brawls inside pub.
