Mangaluru: Landmark strategic shift - Hangyo forays into non-dairy sector

Mangaluru, Feb 16: Hangyo Ice Creams Pvt Ltd, which has entrenched itself solidly in coastal Karnataka in the form a highly respected and admired player in the field of ice creams, has expanded its product base through a new brand name, DNA. Under this brand name, non-dairy products like jams, crushes, squashes, syrups and more are being introduced in the market through Hangyo Gourmet Pvt Ltd, a fully owned subsidairy of Hangyo Ice Creams Pvt Ltd.

Pradeep G Pai, managing director of Hangyo Ice Creams Pvt Ltd, said that Hangyo happens to be a home-grown company that is mainly associated with dairy products. "We have established Hangyo Gourmet with the aim of establishing and consolidating its presence in non-dairy food hospitality sector. Through Hangyo Gourmet, range of fruit-based products under the brand name, DNA, have been launched. The uniqueness of our products is that we offer a longer shelf life for our products as compared to similar products available in the market" he explained.

Pai says that Hangyo has established itself as a popular household name in southern India because the high quality of the products marketed by it. He notes that through DNA brand of products, Hangyo has moved into non-dairy FMCG space which is in need of branded, premium quality products. "In launching these products, we are driven by the Prime Minister's 'Make in India' concept and to support Indian agricultural field by remaining mainly focused on real ingredients like farm fresh fruits and vegetables," he described.

DNA was launched on February 14 at a function held at Ocean Pearl Hotel here. The launch coincided with the happy occasion of 15th anniversary of Hangyo. DNA range of products were launched by MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Kateel, speaking after unveiling the new products and logo, said that the way Hangyo has carved out a niche for itself and established itself as a popular brand, is a model for the young people entering any industry to emulate. He congratulated Hangyo's managing director, Pradep G Pai and his team for showing commitment and putting in hard work to reach this level. He said that Mangaluru had been identified in sectors like education, banking, hotel etc and now it has become famous at the national level in the field of ice creams too. He hailed Hangyo for its contribution in making this happen.

DNA product portfolio is as follows:

1. Jams: Mango, strawberry, pineapple, mixed fruit.
2. Syrup: Rose
3. Juices: Mango, orange.
4. Crushes: Strawberry, orange.
5. Canned fruits: Pineapple slices, fruit cocktail, pineapple tidbits.
6. Crushes: Strawberry, lychee, orange, pineapple.
7. Puree: Tomato.

Executive chairman of Hangyo Ice Creams Pvt Ltd, Dinesh R Pai, says that the inspiration to start Hangyo arose from tasting of an ordinary ice cream during a trip to Australia. Recalling the success story of Hangyo over the last 15 years, he attributes the success of Hangyo brand of products to pursuit of excellence associated with them. He hopes that the customers will continue to shower the affection that they have been extending to Hangyo products so far.

Hangyo Gourmet Pvt Ltd has under its arm, ice cream parlours, outdoor catering, and restaurants in Mangaluru and Udupi. Its outlets have been operating in malls, multiplexes, private campuses like Infosys and educational institutions like Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Hangyo Gourmet also has several firsts to its credit like first soft serve, first icy stone ice cream, first to introduce Mumbai style chats etc.

MLA, J R Lobo, presided over the function. President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vathika Pai, who was the chief guest, Deepa Pradeep Pai, executive chairman of Hangyo Ice Creams, Dinesh R Pai, executive director, Jagadish R Pai, vice president (sales), F S Miranda, and Nayonika Rai, who is the face of Hangyo, were present.
