Ajman - Jul 31: An Indian man has been arrested after police found his brother dead in their apartment with a large knife stuck in his head.
The body of Mohammed Kutty, 40, was found on Monday in a pool of blood in the bathroom of the studio flat he shared with his brother Ibrahim, 33, said Col Sultan bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the deputy director of Ajman police.
Police rushed to the apartment in Al Nuaimiya area behind GMC hospital on Monday after receiving a telephone call at 6am saying there was a body inside. The dead man’s brother was not there when they arrived but he later went to a police station and made a statement.
Col Sultan said Kutty at first denied the killing but confessed later under interrogation.
“In his first statement, he told police that he was sleeping at around 6am when he heard a loud cry from the bathroom,” said Col Sultan. “He said, ‘On reaching there, I found my brother lying dead in a pool of blood’.”
However, the suspect could not explain why he was not present when police arrived at the apartment and why he had not reported the killing to them, Col Sultan added.
He later admitted that he and his brother had quarrelled and had sworn to kill each other, and that he had acted first.
Residents of the building said the two brothers had worked together for years as sales attendants in a grocery shop.
A workmate said they had another brother in Sharjah. He said the dead man, who had been in the country for 17 years, had brought his brothers to the UAE from the Indian state of Kerala.
The dead man was not married, but the suspected killer had a wife and two children in Kerala, the shop attendant said.
“We noticed they were no longer on good terms, but Mohammed always tried to cover up as an elder brother,” he said.
