Robbie Keane to Complete £18m Liverpool Transfer

The Daily Telegraph

London, Jul 29: The Tottenham vice-captain, 28, is now set complete his move from White Hart Lane within the next 24 hours, in time to fly out with the rest of the Liverpool squad to Spain, enabling him to feature in the club's friendly with La Liga's Villarreal on Wednesday evening.

Boyhood Liverpool supporter Keane has been offered a deal reported to be worth £80,000 a week, with negotiations having successfully taken place over the weekend with manager Rafael Benitez.

The Republic of Ireland international, who scored 80 goals in 197 Premier League games for Spurs, is now expected to form a mouthwatering strike partnership alongside Spaniard Fernando Torres at Anfield next season.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and manager Juande Ramos both reluctantly agreed to allow the player to move to Merseyside on Friday evening.

If the transfer does go through, then it will take Benitez's close-season spending to the £32m mark following the arrivals of Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri from Palmeiras, Borussia Dortmund right-back Philipp Degen, left-back Andrea Dossena, who signed from Udinese, and youngsters David Ngog and Emmanuel Mendy.

However, Benitez has managed to also raise £20m through the sales of Scott Carson, John Arne Riise, Danny Guthrie and Peter Crouch.
