Oscar Fernandes to be Karnataka Congress Chief ?

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (MM/RD)

Mangalore, Jul 27: Union minister of state for labour and employment and senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes is likely to be appointed as  president of  the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), sources informed.

Since Mallikarjun Kharge was chosen to be leader of the  opposition party lin the assembly, he had to quit the caretaker post of KPCC president which he had  held since over a month. However, adhering to Congress rules that no member will be allowed to hold dual posts, the Congress high command has decided to appoint a new chairman for KPCC as the parliamentary elections are nearing closer.

Sources said that KPCC will be restructured soon and Oscar would be the ideal choice for the post of KPCC  president. The party High command learnt that Oscar is the right person to lead the Congress in Karnataka as he has maintained cordial relations with all levels of party men. But it remains to be seen if he will continue as union minister after his formal takeover  as president of KPCC.

Siddaramaiah is a right choice for the Congress. He is a icon among AHINDA voters and poor section of the society. He is the only hope of Congress in Karnataka. If Congress ignores this and relies on the opinion of dead leaders in the party, it would be suicidal for the Congress.

Karnataka state survives purely on caste politics as majority of Lingayat and other upper castes supports BJP and JD(S) by Vokkaligas. As such, losing Siddaramaiah will be a big blow to Congress as he commands nearly 25% of the total electorate in the State.

It is sure that party will not win even 2 seats in the coming Lok Shabha election if anybody is made as KCCP Chief other than Siddaramaiah.

Talking about a new Congress Chief for the party, with due respects to Oscar the gentleman, if ever I had a say at the top (unfortunately I will never have...because these grapes are sour!!!), I would have grabbed the opportunity of inviting Mr.Sangliana to join the Congress and offer him the Presidency of the State party.

With his widespread good and respected reputation in the whole state especially among the common man and even the rural folk in most of the districts, a Sangliana lead Congress party may end up even with more than 80% success.

I personally feel that Oscar is a wrong choice. In the Assembly elections in Karnataka the Congress got 79 seats but one or two of them resigned to opt for BJP but if Oscar becomes the Chief you may not even get 5 MP seats for congress.

It is better to make Siddharamaiah or DK Shuivakumar as the Chief of Karnataka Congress because he is aggressive, young and dyanmic. Siddaramaiah is a crowd puller. He could get all the AHINDA votes. I hope Sonia Gandhi will think hundred times before appointing Oscar as the new Congress Pradesh Chief.

I am surprised to see so many people voicing their opinion about Mr Oscar fernandes. I also endorse their opinion. I really wish Mr Frenandes looks at all these comments. As remarked, he is a good man....but it is not enough to be good. He needs to be aggressive and really make in impact locally and at the National level. He has so much clouti really wish he only used it for the benefit of the people of Mangalore and Karnataka. I wish him all the best.

I don't understand why so many people bother for Congress party and its leaders! Because, Congress High Command and State leaders are so busy and putting their maximum effort to wash out the Congress Party from the country, let us and encourage them! Mr Oscar has no eligibility to be called as a leader. He is the kitchen cabinet secretary to Sonia Gandhi and a messenger to Deve Gowda. Can he speak fluently any language while addressing a rally in Karnataka? Let the Congress party decide their own fate by making such 'Howdu Basava Howdu' leaders taking front role and help their party to its natural death!

All Mangalore community and those associated with the party will marvel at the onerous dedication of Oscar. He is no doubt a soft spoken person but he definetly a man of grit and determination, bound by honest values, an able leader. A leader can lead his team with only these skills. We appreciate and congratulate Oscar on his great responsibility.

If I have to comment on this, Mr. Oscar Fernandes should remain as a Union Minister and look after the welfare of the Labour Class people as he is a silent worker. I feel he is doing a good job in this field. With regard to Leader of Congress in Karnataka, it should given to some young aggressive candidate who can face and handle any opposition within the party without any fear. I am not saying Mr. Oscar Fernandes is not capable but his nature is soft, straight forward and a humble worker where as congress need an aggressive young candidate to lead them. Yes, Mr. Oscar Fernandes can support him and advise him and stand behind him.

Great souls, nice people do not make great leaders. I do not think Mr Oscar Fernandes has it in him to lead the congress party to victory in Karnataka. One has to be street smart here and also have very good organizing abilities to bring the warring factions together. One has to be able to drive the point to dissenters that ''United we stand, dividec we fall''. Mr Fernandes could be a good secretary within the party,as he can prepare good reports and read them out during meetings and also play the mouth organ when things get boring.

Mr. Oscar Fernandes needs to work vigorously, if Congress has to come back to power in the next Lok Sabha election. As of now, what has he done for his state, while sitting in Delhi, as Labour & Employment Minister? The educated locals in Karnataka are not able to find suitable employment. Coastal Karnataka is full of migrants. Take the case of Mangalore/Kankanady Railway Stations. We find hardly any local person. Mr. Fernandes needs to wake up and work on this issue, to convince the youth.

As a senior Congress leader and having spent majority of his political life with influential people from the Congress party, Oscar's political achievement to the general public and his district as a leader is Zero. As rightly pointed out by someone, his ability to pull the crowd is below par with other leaders of his calibre.

He is too soft and not fit to be in today's politics. Today's politics needs people with sharp brain, aggressive nature and be ready to muck around with other parties and their deliberations. Congress should field a young gun to be a chief of state unit and do away with the groupism in the party. My best bet is leaders with a calibre of Lalu Yadav, Jr Scindia, Jr. Deora or likes of Siddaramayya, who has a vast experience in the Karnataka politics.

Ocar Fernandes is not the crowd puller and not the right choice to become Karnataka State Congress President. They need to go each and every corner of the state to find out a right person who is accepted by the people. Today experience will not matter in hardcore politics but the personality. Congress lost last state election because lack of leadership and dirty politics. I hope Congress will realize atleast this issue much before the election and avoid one more humiliation.

UNDER THE GIVEN CIRCUMSTANCES, OSCAR FERNANDES YOU DID'NT SUIT THE BILL. YOU ARE TOO SOFT AND POLITE, FOR THIS POST. LET SOMEONE WITH MASS BASE, LIKE SIDDARAMAIYYA, OR DK SHIVAKUMAR IS BETTER EQUIPPED TO MATCH THE BJP DVS GOWDA OR JDS....

In my opinion, Siddaramaiyya is the best bet. Oscar is too mild to take on BJP and JDS who shown aggressive attitudes alredy in the election mode. Siddaramiyya's talent and tact to convert into votes in Southern K'taka prooved in the Assembly elections. If given a chance to lead from the front, Congress can improve its tally in the Lok sabha from K'taka, under him. With Oscar, at the helm, doubt Congress will win 50% of seats...provided he succeeds in neutralising groupism within the party, one may expect a miracle.

Dear friends, After all those trials & erros with antiques, Congress seems to have learnt nothing. The performances of Juniors like Deora, Prasada, Jindal, Pilot etc should have given them enough reason to dump the obsolete and hunt for new blood. After the recent drubbing in the State Assembly elections, Congress should really look for dynamic young blood who can deliver. The experiments in the UK (Cameron) and USA (Obama)who are likely to emerge winners for their respective parties should open Congress' eyes in the ion of new candidates. Good luck to Congress.

Ultimately Congress will be nowhere. Requested to induct Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde, R. Rai, Ballal, Jr. Madvaraj, Sabhapathi in the core commitee and see the difference.
