Colombo, Jul 24: Playing in his 96th Test, Mahela Jayawardene achieved a plethora of records during his innings of 136 on Thursday. We take a look:
- On 100, he completed his 23rd hundred in Test cricket - most by a Sri Lankan (Aravinda de Silva is distant second with 20).
- The hundred was his fourth in 10th Tests and 14th innings against India. Only Aravinda de Silva has scored more - 5, but he also played 9 Tests and 18 innings more than Jayawardene.
- The hundred was 17th for Jayawardene at home soil - in just 81 innings. This puts him at level with Brian Lara. Only Hayden (21), Ponting (19) and Bradman (18) have scored more hundreds at home soil than Jayawardene.
- The hundred was Jayawardene's ninth at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo. With this he equalled Don Bradman's world record of most hundreds at a particular ground. Bradman had scored 9 hundreds in 17 innings at Melbourne. Jayawardene needed 29 innings for his 9 at SSC.
- The hundred was Jayawardene's tenth as captain - most by a Sri Lankan captain. Sanath Jayasuriya is distant second with 5.
- On 112, Jayawardene completed his 5,000 runs on Sri Lankan soil. He became first Sri Lankan and 10th batsman in Test chronicles to do so. Jayawardene's average of 66.98 is the highest among 10.
- On 118, Jayawardene completed his 1,000 runs (in 10th Test) against India. He became only the second Sri Lankan - after Aravinda de Silva (1252 in 19) to do so.
